Start A School With Friends

I recently ran across this post (shared by someone on HackerNews) about starting a school (or university as they sometimes refer to it) with friends, and it’s stuck in my mind as a great idea. I’ve always enjoyed teaching things on a small, casual level, and I’ve thought for a long time about the possibility of teaching in a more formal scenario. FractalU is still pretty casual compared to nationally accredited, endowment-backed universities, but the framework they’ve set up gives it a measure of formality – a nice middle ground, I think.

Lent 2025

I knew immediately…

I enjoy observing the liturgical calendar. It’s a practice that falls under the larger affinity of spiritual disciplines. Unfortunately, in my largely overwhelmed adult life, I often think nothing of the important dates on the calendar until they actually come around. The result of this is that, despite enjoying spiritual disciplines and wanting to come up with something to give up for Lent each year, Ash Wednesday usually comes, startles me as it arrives, and goes without me having put any thought into it lately.

2024 Books

My Story Graph Profile

This year, I’ve been heavily skewing towards non-fiction, especially business/process-related books and spiritual practices/philosophy books. It sort of continues last year’s trend from the likes of Getting Things Done and Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance . Before last year, I’d been skewing heavily towards fiction for several years.
