We’re here because we’re here. I don’t know why we’re here. I can tell you why we’re here from a high-level biological, ecological perspective. I can tell you why we’re here from a number of different Christian perspectives. I’m still not sure what the meat of it is, though. We’re here because we’re here.

This is my Workview (Designing Your Life
) as of 24 January 2026.
Work is what we do productively with our lives. It can incorporate activities from other areas of life like play or worship or social interaction, but it doesn’t have to. We work to produce and to provide service. Ideally (and ostensibly) it’s done for the preservation and betterment of our communities. Those communities can exist at any scale from hyper-local to worldwide.

I knew immediately…
I enjoy observing the liturgical calendar. It’s a practice that falls under the larger affinity of spiritual disciplines. Unfortunately, in my largely overwhelmed adult life, I often think nothing of the important dates on the calendar until they actually come around. The result of this is that, despite enjoying spiritual disciplines and wanting to come up with something to give up for Lent each year, Ash Wednesday usually comes, startles me as it arrives, and goes without me having put any thought into it lately.
